Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade

Andrew Meredith did not think he had much to learn after spending close to 30 years in the welding profession. This quickly changed when he decided to study Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (MEM30305) from the Australia Pacific Training Coalition (APTC) in Samoa in 2020. 

“At first, I thought that this course was not really for me, but I was wrong. The time I spent training helped me in refining my expertise and in learning new techniques and developments in my field. Studying at APTC was one of the best choices I have ever made,” he says.

He adds that applying the skills he learned has helped him provide better services to his clients. After completing the program, Andrew managed to expand his welding contractor services.

“I recommend anyone who is looking at progressing their career or looking for something different to try learning a trade. When you make the commitment to training and upskilling, you are investing in your future.”

The APTC Certificate III in Engineering - Fabrication Trade is a 22-week course designed to further skills within the manufacturing and engineering industries. Students learn how to assemble fabricated components, perform sheet and plate assembly, interpret technical drawings and perform gas tungsten arc welding, manual metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding and welding to code standards.

Andrew is one of over 1900 Samoans trained by the APTC with support from the Australian Government.
