Certificate IV in Hospitality Supervision

Roa Vali from Papua New Guinea began her journey with APTC as a student and is now helping train others in the hospitality sector. 

Since completing SIT40313 Certificate IV in Hospitality Supervision in 2009, Roa has embraced opportunities that came her way following a career of over 15 years in the hotel industry.

“Despite having a lot of experience, I felt I needed more training, which motivated me to pursue an Australian qualification at APTC,” she says.

“After studies, I returned to my previous employment as the Restaurant Manager. The following year, I was promoted to Food and Beverage Assistant Manager.”

However, Roa says she always had the goal of becoming a hospitality trainer in the hotel industry. Her dreams came true when she got the opportunity to join APTC as a hospitality tutor, and later she progressed to a trainer (intermediate) for Certificate III in Hospitality program.

“I think it is a miracle that I got this opportunity at APTC. So many of my friends still ask me how I got a job as a hospitality tutor/trainer in a training institute. It is all about commitment, passion, dedication and hard work.”

Roa continues to upskill, completing the TAE40110, TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and TVETC001, TVETC002 International Skills Training Course at APTC.

She admits that being a trainer has its own challenges but is grateful to her fellow APTC trainers, who have mentored and encouraged her over the years.

“What inspires me the most is our students. They bring their own set of knowledge and skills and get to upgrade them and progress in their careers. Till today, I get positive feedback from our graduates on how APTC qualifications have changed their lives,” Roa says.

She encourages others to set a goal and work towards it, adding that self-confidence, work ethic and positive attitude are essential for a successful career.
